Matthew Benson is heading into his 3rd season as an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach, bringing a wealth of leadership experience and a passion for developing young athletes both on and off the court.

Coach Benson's journey to South Kitsap is marked by dedication, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence. With five years of basketball coaching experience, including work with local youth leagues SKYAA and SKYBB, he has honed his skills in nurturing talent at the crucial middle school level. His approach focuses on developing players' fundamental skills, game knowledge, and team dynamics – essential elements for success at the high school level and beyond.

A decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, Benson served for 22 years, including deployments in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. This background has instilled in him the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance – qualities he now imparts to our student-athletes.

"I have a strong will to win," Coach Benson states, "but I know that you must be a student before you are an athlete." This philosophy aligns perfectly with South Kitsap's commitment to developing well-rounded individuals who excel in academics and athletics.

Benson's technical expertise, honed through years of managing complex equipment and leading teams in high-pressure situations, translates directly to his coaching style. He excels at breaking down complex skills, making them accessible to players of all levels.
